KUALA LUMPUR (July 10, 2011): Just one day after the Bersih 2.0 rally which saw thousands of Malaysians taking to the streets here, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak today led his own team of over 100 supporters for a walkabout along the same route.
He was also joined by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil together with her Skuad Sayang, as well as Deputy Federal Territory and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk M. Saravanan.
The group, many of whom were chanting "1Malaysia," started moving from Sogo shopping complex at about 5pm, escorted by about 20 police officers led by KL Deputy CPO Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh.
Sogo was among several major shopping centres in the area ordered to shut down on Saturday for security reasons.
The group also passed through Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman shopping district, with Najib taking the opportunity to show his concern over losses incurred by shop owners due to the rallies on Saturday.
Among others, Najib dropped by at the Jakel emporium and several goldsmiths.
There were also police officers and outriders stationed at various points along the route in order to assist the procession.
The crowd dispersed at about 6pm after Najib made his final stop at Wisma Yakin.
