Tamil school in Hulu Selangor is without electricity
By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani

KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 — M. Kulasegaran said that a Tamil School in Ladang Escot still does not have supply of electricity in Hulu Selangor.

The DAP Ipoh Barat MP explained that the school is located only one kilometre from the main road from Ipoh to Kuala Lumpur and the University Pelajaran Sultan Idris(Upsi) campus.

“The school is run with a generator and the diesel is supplied by the Parents Teachers Association (PIBG). Monthly, the expenses come to about RM 300. Since there is no electricity supply, the teachers can’t use computers to teach Science subjects and the students can’t use computers. The generator is so noisy and this affects the students’ concentration to study.

“For so many years the school’s PIBG has approached the former MP for Hulu Selangor Datuk G Palanaivel on this matter, but there has been no outcome. It is therefore not surprising that based on ground feedback; Palanivel was not nominated as the BN candidate in the Hulu Selangor by election,” he said when tabling a motion to deduct RM10 from the expenditure requested by the Ministry of Education.

Kulasegaran added that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had insisted that Hulu Selangor was “on loan” to Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

“The Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najb has recently said that Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat has always been a BN stronghold which was ‘on loan’ to Pakatan Rakyat in the 2008 general election, and come April 25, Hulu Selangor must be returned to BN.

“I say that the problems affected by SJKT Ladang Escot are examples of the years of neglect by the BN. It is a testimony that BN’s pledge to bring development is only empty talk,” he said.

He stressed that parliament must vote to cut expenditure requested by the Ministry of Education by RM10 for neglecting the Tamil school in Ladang Escot.

“Hulu Selangor voters must not only reject BN on April 25, Parliament must today vote to cut by RM 10 from the expenditure requested by the Ministry of Education to censure the Education Minister and the BN government for neglecting SJKT Ladang Escot to the extent that it has been without the supply of electricity till today,” he said.

Umno’s Kinabatangan MP Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin criticised Kulasegaran for trying to bring Hulu Selangor by-election into Parliament.

“This motion is only for Hulu Selangor so if you want to go campaign then it is better go to Hulu Selangor and campaign clearly. The ministry of education has guaranteed that they would give allocation for all the schools,” he said.

Umno’s Hulu Terengganu MP, Mohd Nor Othman also accused Kulasegaran of being a racist for only raising issues regarding Tamil schools.

“This motion is racist because the school concerned is Tamil, but there are also other schools which do not have everything, which was no raised by Ipoh Barat MP. I am very disappointed with his motion,” he said.

The motion was rejected in Parliament. - MI
